Football Season Near, Practice Starts July 31

Published Wednesday, July 26, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

Are you ready for some football?

Well, ready or not, the season will begin Friday, Sept. 1.

Gurdon head football coach and athletic director John Pace said conditioning drills will begin Monday, July 31, running through August 3.

Two-a-day practices will be from Aug. 7-15, starting at 8 a.m. each day.

Physicals for players will be given sometime during the week of conditioning drills, July 31 through Aug. 3, Pace said, with all players being required to pass their physical before they will be allowed to play.

A jamboree is in the works, he said, but who the opposition will be and when it will be are still not known at this time.

Several Gurdon Go-Devil players participated in seven-man football during the summer, and posted a perfect 6-0 record. The three teams involved were Gurdon, Hot Springs Lakeside and Hot Springs High.

For the first time ever, the Arkansas Activities Association allowed high schools to have spring training programs. Pace said things looked good from what he saw during the spring training.

Students will report for their first day of class Monday, Aug. 21.
