Bluff City NewsBY JERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, July 19, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune It looks like many of use have some work to do cleaning up limbs and broken trees from the windstorm last week. One of the large trees at the Baptist Church fell with the top hitting the side of the building. I don't think it did much damage. The weather is unbearably hot now. Everyone needs to drink plenty of water and try not to get overheated. I'm afraid many of us have become spoiled by air conditioners. At last report Earl Johnson was still in the hospital at Little Rock, recuperating from bypass surgery. He was very weak before the surgery and is having trouble getting his strength back. I noticed a huge rabbit in our garden last week, eating some of the plants we had treated with Miracle-Gro. Do you suppose there might be a connection? Some Bluff City news from the past (August 9, 1928): The people of this place are busy shipping watermelons. They are loading the seventh car. In 1928 the Bluff City baseball team was called the Bluff City Idlers. From November 1927: Bluff City defeated Gum Grove in basketball with a score of 28 to 6. A little known fact is that half of all Americans live within fifty miles from their birthplace. I read that somewhere and don't guarantee it to be true.
