Elizabeth Purtle from Prescott has been named an honor student for the spring semester at Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee.

Purtle earned above a 3.0 grade average on a 4.0 system throughout the 15-week semester.

Grade point averages are computed on the student's grade in her major area of study and related general education subjects.

Founded in 1946, OSU-Okmulgee is the only college in Oklahoma established specifically for technical education. Graduates can earn an associate in applied sciences degree in any of 11 technical occupations comprised of more than 60 specialized programs of study.

Purtle is enrolled in legal secretarial technology.

Tonya Lynn Riley, a senior at Blevins High School, has been awarded the Award of Achievement Scholarship for 1999-2000 to Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. According to Vikita Bell Hardwick, director, the Award of Achievement Scholarship is equivalent to $250 per semester for up to four years which equals $2,000.

She is the daughter of Terry and Peggy Riley.

Registration for the first summer term at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia will be held on Tuesday, June 1, beginning at 8 a.m. Classes will begin on Wednesday, June 2.

Students must meet with their advisors prior to registration. Advisors will be available on the day of registration. Students new to SAU will need to complete the application process before registering for classes. Applications and summer schedules are available from the Office of Admissions in Nelson Hall.

Students may take a maximum of six hours each summer term. Students will have the luxury of a three-day weekend with classes meeting only Monday through Thursday.

Shannon Womble, daughter of Bill and Patsy Womble, granddaughter of Frank Wilson and the late Marie Wilson and the late Knapp Womble and Inez Womble Head, graduated from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia on Friday, May 14.

Shannon received a bachelor of science degree in business administration with an accounting emphasis.

Jaclyn Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Jones of North Little Rock, graduated from Pulaski Technical College of Practical Nursing Thursday, May 13. She is the granddaughter of Hazel Jones of Prescott.
