There's a new coach in town to lead the Wolverettes on the hardwood for the 2000-2001 season.

Jody A. Cowart was recently hired by the Prescott School Board to take the helm from Bill Cossey, who retired.

Cowart, from Arkadelphia, was the head coach of the Poyen seventh grade team last season, while being assistant basketball, baseball, softball and track coach as well.

His other duties at Poyen included teaching earth science, life science and elementary physical education.

Cowart graduated from Henderson State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, majoring in physical education with a minor in health.

He did his student internship within the Arkadelphia school system, teaching co-ed P.E. and assisting in the coaching of junior high basketball.

As a student assistant coach at HSU he served as rebounding coach, team statistician and had several managerial duties as well, while working under Coach David Thigpen.

He also worked with the HSU women's basketball program.

Cowart was a volunteer assistant basketball and baseball coach in Kirby from October 1995 until May 1997.

There he served as drills coach, with other assistant coaching duties, worked basically with seventh graders in basketball and coached outfielders in baseball.

Taking the helm of the Wolverettes will be his first head coaching job.
