Bluff City Newsby JERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, July 12, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune The holiday is now gone. We can look forward to the dog days of summer and several weeks of hot, sticky weather. The Sellers and Carman families took off for the the lake for a few days of R and R. Seems like people are attracted to water this time of year. If you can't get to the lake, try the water hose. It's cheaper. Missy Beaver has returned from a two-week trip to several states in the northeast part of the country. I think she went all the way to Maine, which might be nice this time of year. This trip was part of a graduate course she was taking. Last year she went out west. Watch for the traffic jams on the east end of town. The new crop of watermelons are now ripe and for sale under the shade trees at the James Tomlin home. Watermelons sales will probably interfere with his afternoon naps. Those folks who raised a garden are probably needing a rest by now. Sometimes everything gets ready at once. Purple thumbs, sore fingers, and broken fingernails seem to be the order of the day. It's a lot of hard work, but the eating is fine. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Olen Kelley to the community. They have moved into a mobile home next to James and Kay Nelson. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Kelley fell and cracked a bone in her shoulder. We wish her a speedy recovery. Earl Johnson of Camden, formerly of this area, had bypass surgery at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock last week. At last report he was improving. He is a brother-in-law of Bernell Johnson and Millard McBride. Elton Ingram from Camden was buried at Ebenezer Cemetery on July 4th. Pearl and Lloyd Henson visited Millard and Elloene McBride over the holidays. They then headed back to Missouri for a few weeks before returning to Zambia, Africa. Did you know that the little plastic or metal things on the end of shoe laces are called aglets? Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
