Dr. Young Celebrates 25 Years

Published Wednesday, July 12, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

Dr. Michael C. Young and the Prescott Family Clinic recently celebrated 25 years of operation.

Young, who grew up in Russellville, earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and completed his medical training at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1974.

He and two classmates decided to come to Prescott and open a rural health clinic. His partners left, the Nevada County Hospital closed, but Young and the Prescott Family Clinic stayed and flourished.

In fact, Dr. Young practices medicine in what many would consider the old fashioned way. He, at times, makes house calls and accepts barter instead of cash for his services.

The clinic doesn't close for the day until the last patient has been treated.

Dr. Young does community service work, is a member of Rotary and an active member of the Methodist Church. He donates supplies to the Mission Field annually, is the past president of the American Academy of Family Physicians and was featured in the UAMS Journal in 1974 when it did a story on country doctors.

His wife, Gail, teaches physics at Prescott High School, while his son, Britt, works at Arkansas Children's Hospital in research. Young's daughter, Amy is in the registered nurse program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock.

Young's plans are to continue practicing in Prescott as long as he is able.
