HORNE FUNERAL HOME of GURDON

Joseph Dewitt Baskin, 82, of Gurdon died at his home Sunday, July 2, 2000, after a three-year battle with cancer.

Mr. Baskin was born February 28, 1918, in Graysonia to the late James and Elsie Baskin. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, having begun his military career in 1941 and serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in Japan during the late 1940's and served tours of duty in England and Spain. He retired from the military in 1964 and settled in Gurdon, where he worked for Arkla Chemical for 20 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Juanita McKenzie Baskin; one son, James Baskin of Little Rock; two daughters, Mary Ann Freiling of Evergreen, Colo., and Cathy Baskin of Sutter Creek, Calif.; two brothers, Sam Baskin of Malvern and Ed Baskin of Little Rock; and four grandchildren, Colin, Chad, and Christa Hart of Colorado and Darcy Baskin of Little Rock.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 5, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Perry and Rev. Rusty Jones officiating. Interment was in Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon under the direction of Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
