Golden OldiesBY DORIS VANCEPublished Wednesday, July 12, 2000 in the Gurdon Times My son Leon, grandson Brandon and myself made a short trip to southwest Missouri over the Fourth of July holiday. I was able to see my sister and my husband's younger brother and his family. It is hot there, but not as humid as Arkansas. Friday, July 7, was the center's site supervisor's last day. Naomi Brown retired. We are all going to miss her. Some of the senior adult ladies pieced quilt blocks and embroidered our names on them for her quilt. Martha Bearden put the tops together and the cover girls quilted it. It was presented to her Friday. We are really going to miss her. Martha Bearden has been promoted to the empty position. We know she is going to do a wonderful job. The cover girls have four quilts to quilt, so we are going to be busy for a while. July 10-14, we will play bingo, be entertained with singing from Lloyd Baumgardner and be offered free blood sugar and blood pressure screenings from National Park Medical Center. We're looking forward to the square dancers also. There will be lots more activities scheduled for the rest of July to enjoy. We would love to have all senior adults join us. You will enjoy visiting and fellowship with other adults. The center is a program of Central Arkansas Development Council and a United Way agency.
