Herman A. WalkerRESTLAND FUNERAL HOME of DALLASPublished Wednesday, July 5, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Herman A. Walker, retired Colonel, U.S. Army, departed this life Wednesday, June 28, 2000. He was born in Winchester September 27, 1915. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jill, of 57 years. Upon retirement in 1967 at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, after 30 years served, he moved to Dallas, Texas, and joined the administrative staff of Parkland Hospital and later Baylor University Medical Center. During World War II he served as an administrative officer in the 56th Evacuation Hospital, an affiliated unit of Baylor Hospital, which saw extensive services in North Africa and Italy. Later, in the early phase of the Korean War, he commanded the 25th Infantry Division Medical Battalion. He was a graduate of George Washington University, the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Penn. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Dallas. He was a Scottish Rite, Mason, a member of the Hella Shrine Temple and the Rotary Club of Fair Park. Mr. Walker is survived by his son, Col. Jimmy Walker and his wife Susan of Alexandria, Va.; a a brother, James B. Walker and his wife Margaurite of Malvern; three grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, July 1, at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas with Dr. John Fiedler officiating. Interment was in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas under the arrangements of Restland Funeral Home of Dallas. Memorials may be made to the chapel class First United Methodist Church.
