Texas Group Helps Build New Church

Published Wednesday, July 5, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

A mission team from Birdville Baptist Church in Birdville, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth, Texas, was looking for a congregation that needed help in building their church.

The team asked several different places before calling the Red River Baptist Association in Arkadelphia, where they heard of a small church called Boughton Baptist located near Prescott, just a few miles off Highway 67.

The team came down to see if this was the type of work they were looking for and indeed it was.

A few weeks later a group of men, women and children showed up ready for work. They brought with them all the supplies to finish "our" fellowship hall. Including sinks, toilets, cabinets, paneling, insulation, doors and windows. As if this was not enough they brought the manpower and taught vacation Bible school.

On Monday, June 26, the work began. While construction was in progress, so was the vacation Bible school. The community of Boughton was surely buzzing at this point. There was an average of 50 children each day, ages ranged from preschool to high school.

On Wednesday night there were a fellowship supper and a singing that followed, featuring the Crossroads Singers from Delight; Renewals from Fulton; and the Messengers of Hope from Gurdon.

Boughton Baptist Church furnished lunches daily for the mission team. Red River Baptist Association Disaster Relief Unit used this opportunity to train volunteers of the disaster relief team.

The First Baptist Church of Prescott graciously furnished the accommodations for the group.
