Club Makes Clothing Protector For Center

Published Wednesday, July 5, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

Extension Homemaker Clubs from the Pisgah and Delight areas worked in a cooperative effort to produce mealtime clothing protectors for residents of the Arkadelphia Human Development Center. The items are designed to protect the clothing of the people served from spillage or staining while eating.

According to Sandra Pilot, president of the County Extension Homemakers group, the need for these items was brought to her attention by staff members of the residential facility during 1999.

The Pisgah Club produced 40 of the protectors while the Delight group made 18.

The clothing protectors were delivered to the Arkadelphia Human Development Center by Edith May of the Delight Club, Linda Blount, president of the Pisgah Club and Etta Teeter, treasurer of the Pisgah group.

"We were happy to assist in this effort for people served at the Arkadelphia Human Development Center," Pilot said. "The Extension Homemaker Clubs are committed to projects that will contribute to a better quality of life for all people who live in our immediate and surrounding areas."

"The Arkadelphia Human Development Center is indebted to the extension homemakers," said Margo Green, superintendent of the Arkadelphia Human Development Center. "They identified a real need for the people we serve and worked together to fill it," she said.

The Arkadelphia Human Development Center is a state-owned, 24-hour-a-day residential and training facility for persons with developmental disabilities. The center has been in continuous operation since its opening in 1968. It is accredited by the Accreditation Rehabilitation Commission, or CARF.'
