Bluff City News

I don't have a lot of news to report this week. About all that can be heard is the sound of air conditioners humming.

Oleta Nelson said she had more plums than she and the squirrels could eat, so she shared some with her friends. They were very tasty.

We had another burial at Bluff City last week. Gregory Billingsley of Camden was buried here on June 24th.

I hear the animals were lining up two by two around Charles and Patricia Farr's place last week. Their water heater sprang a leak and flooded the carpets and closets. Modern conveniences are nice as long as they work.

I learned last week that if you let your grass grow too tall, it will put a strain on your mower, which will cause the belt to break, especially if it's old. Now I've got another repair job to take care of. I wonder if James Nelson would rent one of his goats for a while. If gas prices keep going up, that might be an option for mowing the grass.

News from the archives: March 1942: Cale and Bluff City Schools established the first school-owned forests in the state with the children doing the planting, both boys and girls. Cale has a five-acre forest and Bluff City a ten-acre forest.

Billy Ray McKelvy from De Queen was visiting in the community last week.

Here's another little known fact: On average, 100 people choke to death each year on ball point pens.

A thought for the week: The mosquito's favorite sport is skin diving.I will probably not make the deadline next week due to the holiday, so I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe Fourth of July holiday.
