Published Wednesday, June 28, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

Magnolia's Jackie Lewis went home as the first season points winner from Prescott Raceway Saturday, June 24.

In addition, Lewis captured the top spot in the no electronics division, covering the track with a time of 6.245 seconds. This translates into 110.53 miles per hour.

The runner up in the race was Steve Hamilton from Pine Bluff. Hamilton's time was 7.638, or 90.21 mph.

Finishing third was Reggie Lytch of Jacksonville. His time was 7.108, with a speed of 97.67 mph.

While Lytch's time and speed was greater than Hamilton's, his reaction time was a little too fast as he jumped the gun before the light went green.

Prescott's Greg Dougan was the points winner for the first part of the season in the Super Pro division.

However, the races June 24, went to Charlie Parker of Mineral Springs. Parker blistered the track in 5.333 seconds, or 125.35 mph.

Second was Scotty Dedman of Hot Springs, who ran the course in 5.014 seconds at a speed of 137.07.

There were two semifinalists in this race, Ken Jordan of Bryant, who ran 136.76, and only needed 5.104 to cover the 1,000 foot track, and Steven Pennington of Junction City. Pennington's time was 5.633, or 123.62 mph.

In the Quick 8 division, Scotty Dedman was the winner with a time of 5.670, or 86.03 mph.

Second went to Sonny Reeves of Arkadelphia with a time of 10.223 or 35.5 mph. Spinning tires at the starting light proved to be more than Reeves could overcome.

Ken Jordan of Bryant came in third, even though his time, 5.113 seconds, and speed, 137.28 mph, were faster than the winner's.

In the Street division, Bruce Maness of Stephens took the top spot with a 13.893, or 75.52 mph run.

Richard Daniels of North Little Rock finished second with a time of 12.688 and speed of 81.82 mph.

There were two reaching the semifinal run, Michael Peterson of Smackover, with a time of 11.612, at 89.43 mph, and Prescott's Denise Smillie, who ran the track in 15.083, at a speed of 68.17 mph.

The junior division is interesting because of the age of the drivers. For this category, those sitting behind the wheel must be between the ages of 8-12.

Corey Lytch of Jacksonville was the winner in a time of 16.659, and reaching 42.57 mph.

Second went to Carl Veazey of Malvern. His time was 14.648 and speed was 43.52. However, his reaction time was too quick, costing him first place.

Blaine Shamblin of Texarkana had the best time and speed of the night. His race was run in 9.262 seconds at 70.65 mph.

But, his reaction time was also fast, putting him back in the pack for third place.
