Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, May 26, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune My news I faxed last week to the Picayune was the same as the week before. I plan to fax the right news for May 19 so it will get in the paper next week. James and Kay Nelson had a visit a few days ago from Vince, Lindsay, and Tyler from Alexander to celebrate a late Mother's Day. They surprised Vince with cake and ice cream since his birthday was close. While there, Tyler helped his granddad with the chickens and enjoyed riding the four-wheeler. Lindsay was a big help to grandma picking up eggs and playing with the kittens. It was a very enjoyable day for James and Kay. Several Bluff Citians were among the crowd at the recent auction of the Bob and Brodie Knight estate. It is interesting to watch people bid on different items. There were some good items and some not so good. There must be some truth to the old saying, "One man's junk is another man's treasure." All I bought was a box of old books. If anyone needs a copy of the 1945 World Book (Vol. S), I would be willing to part with it. Jeanie and I spent a few days in Missouri recently. First, we traveled to Branson. If your bank account ever gets too much money in it, Branson is a good place to drain off a little in a hurry. From there, we made the long journey across southern Missouri to the southeast corner to visit relatives. We completed the circle and arrived home, tired and ready to get back to the normal routine. I haven't heard any recent reports from some of our sick folks. At last report Glen Walker was in Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock in serious condition. Kay Sellers' brother in Texas was also not doing well. Our prayers and thought are with all those who are sick. I noticed that Bill Walker's watermelon patch seems to be coming along nicely. The deep sand around Bluff City is well suited for growing melons. Our thought this week: "The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse get the cheese."
