4-H News

Nevada County 4-H members were busy attending area camps June 14-16.

Randy and Wayne McClure attended the Forestry and Wildlife Camp at the C. A. Vines 4-H Center at Ferndale. The Forestry and Wildlife Camp covered a wide range of educational topics, including the processing of lumber, function of a portable sawmill, identification of the different types of lumber, the how to's of canoe making and reading a compass.

While Randy and Wayne were busy in the woods at Ferndale, Riley Godwin, Nick Johnson and Daniel and Doug Holley were at the Hempstead County Fairgrounds in Hope attending the first annual South Arkansas Beginner Livestock Judging Clinic. There were 33 other 4-H'ers from across southwest Arkansas also in attendance.

The 4-H'ers attending the Livestock Judging Clinic learned the basics of judging different types of livestock from swine to sheep and cattle.

Other camps will be taking place throughout the summer, including a Summer Day Camp here in Nevada County July 6 and 7.

For more information concerning this camp call the Extension office at 887-2818. This activity is open to all youth between the ages of 5 and 19.
