Musician To Be At McRae For ReunionPublished Wednesday, June 28, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneProfessor Charles Lott Miller will be performing at the McRae reunion Saturday, July 1, at 7 p.m. Miller is currently the owner of The Musician's School of Music. He is a teacher at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, a genealogist, writer, trumpeter, conductor and minister of music at Freestone Baptist Church. He received advanced degrees from The University of Nebraska in Omaha, the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and most recently graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. He graduated from McRae High in 1962. Miller is married to Chestene Roberson Miller. Professor Miller has performed with many local R&B/jazz musical groups in Omaha, the Omaha Wind Symphony, the University of Nebraska Pit Orchestra, Rutgers Jazz Ensemble in New Brunswick, and The Fabulous Rhinestones pop/jazz group in Woodstock, N.Y. He was a trumpet student in the band at the former McRae High School for seven years. Besides teaching and performing, Miller is co-author with nine others in the new published paperback book: African American Jazz and Rap: Social and Philosophical Examinations of Black Expressive Behavior. He is currently working on two upcoming books: Contemporary Jazz, Gospel Chord Progressions for Church Musicians and Jazz Improvisation Method for Trumpet Players and other Instruments.
