PHS Students Win Elections At Boys StatePublished Wednesday, June 21, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneAmerican Legion Boys State delegates attending the 60th annual encampment June 4-9 at the University of Central Arkansas completed their study of self-government by electing state officers, visiting the state Capitol in Little Rock on Friday, June 9 and helping select Boys Nation senators. Fictitious counties and cities are created. Elections are held for various offices for the students attending Boys State. Attending Boys State from Prescott were Josh Bullock, Daniel Joe Windham, Darryl Tidwell and Rafael Marlow. Bullock was elected to three offices: Representative from the fictitious town of Murphy in the fictitious county of Sloan; Justice of the Peace of the same county; and to the City Council of Murphy. Tidwell was elected Representative from Blytheville in Wamble County and to the Quorum Court of the county. Marlow was elected County Judge of Sloan County and Windham was elected to the Blytheville City Council. The 734 delegates elected Will Tommey of Van Buren as their Governor. He will be a senior at Van Buren High School. Boys State is sponsored by the Arkansas Department of the American Legion.
