Byers, Purtle Wed At Ceremony In OklahomaPublished Wednesday, June 21, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneAngela Michelle Byers and James Sidney Purtle were married May 20, 2000 at 4:00 in the afternoon at the Bartlesville Southern Baptist Church of Bartlesville, Okla. The wedding was officiated by Rev. Paul Rummage. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Don Byers of Bartlesville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Bailey of Gurdon, Mrs. Carol Byers of Little Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Z.T. Byers of Foreman and the great grand-daughter of Mrs. Jim Williams of Bartlesville, formerly of Curtis. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Purtle of Prescott and the grandson of Mrs. Sid Purtle of Prescott and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Altom of Abilene, Texas. The candle-lighted sanctuary of the church was decorated with 26 candelabras arranged with white candles, ivy, lemon leaf, white enchantment lilies, white roses, peach carnations, pink snapdragons and larkspur. The aisles were lined with white tulle bows adorned with bridal white roses. An ensemble, including Myron Smith at the piano, Amanda Ray and Jeanne Squyres on the violin and Stephen Kelley trumpeter, provided music while the guest were being seated and the candles lighted. The bride's book was attended by Jennifer Jones of Dallas, Texas, with Aubrey Phillips of Bartlesville handing out wedding programs. Wedding music was provided by Myron Smith, Jeanne Squyres and Ken Austin. Vocalists were Stephanie Purtle singing Surely the Presence, Ken Austin singing This is the Day and Stephen and Christy Kelley singing Household of Faith. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white bridal gown designed by Bonnie Brides. The fabric was of polysilk. The sweetheart neckline was outlined with white pearls, sequins and bugle beads. The elegant long sleeves, also covered in pearl design, showed illusion areas which came to a point past her wrist in lace. The Basque waistline led to a full skirted gown that was finished in Venice lace. The back of the gown cris-crossed to form a heart. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses and million star baby's breath. Jamie Sammer of Bartlesville, childhood friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Beth Purtle of Bridgeport, Texas, sister of the groom, Sarah Holland of Bartlesville, friend of the bride, and Andrea Baily and Laura Bailey both of Conway, cousins of the bride, all served as bridesmaids. The bride's attendants wore identical floor length gowns of aqua ice satin. The sheath style dresses were on the shoulder with a high rounded neck line. The back of the gown was in conjunction with that of the brides which came to a V-shape. At the base of V was an aqua ice rose with a leaf on each side. Below the rose was a drape of chiffon which flowed behind as a mini train. The bridesmaids carried nosegays of pale peach Gerbera daisies, light blue delphinium, sweetheart roses in bridal white pink and lavender waxflowers. Flower girls were Holly Rummage and Jamie Rummage of Bartlesville. They wore matching floor-length gowns with tulle overlays and a halo of roses, pearls and baby's breath and carried white baskets with white rose petals. Brad Purtle of Lancaster, Texas, served his brother as best man. Michael Byers of Tulsa, brother of the bride, Drew Altom of Baird, Texas, cousin of the groom, Dan Altom of Woodlands, Texas, cousin of the groom, and Bobby Potter of Danville, cousin of the groom, served as groomsmen. The groom and his attendants wore traditional black tuxedos. Brian Purtle of Rogers, cousin of the groom, and Nick Weaver of Sherwood, were candlelighters at the ceremony. Leading to the reception in the fellowship hall were in-ground lanterns accented with white ribbon and tulle bows. The hall was decorated as a garden, with an arbor, flowering plants, ferns, ivy and tulle.White lattice decorated with tulle and bougainvillea provided the background for the bride's table. The table consisted of a four-tier wedding cake accented with white fresh flowers and crystal two-point candelabras flanking each side of the cake. Handmade wedding mints and nuts decorated the table. A round table was at each end of the center table. On one round table was the groom's cake, a two-tiered chocolate basket covered with tuxedo strawberries. A silver punch bowl and coffee service graced the other table. Serving at these tables were Annie Thompson and Rebecca Garrelts, both of Bartlesville, and friends of the bride and groom. Erin Strobel and Amy Schmidt assisted at the reception. An assortment of sandwiches, cheeses, vegetables, dips and chocolate-covered strawberries were served from long tables with a large centerpiece of fresh flowers. Serving at these tables were Rylee Zaragoza and Debbie Loafman both of Bartlesville, friends of the bride and groom, and Sheryl Porter of Oklahoma City, a friend of the bride. Large round tables for sitting and visiting were located throughout the fellowship hall. They were decorated with ivy, tulle and crystal bowls with floating gardenia candles. The tables were covered with floor-length pink cloths with white overlays. The reception hostesses were Janell Jones, Cindy Kirby and Steve Cabler, friends of the bride and groom. Wedding bells rang and bubbles were blown as the couple left the church in a 1964 black with red interior, AMC Ambassador convertible, driven by Gene Brown, friend of the couple. Wedding director was Megan Bowersock of Tulsa, friend of the bride and groom. Following a trip to the southern Carribean, the couple will be at home in Pearland, Texas, where the groom is employed with Exxon-Mobil. Pre-Wedding Parties Mrs. Jim Simmons hosted a bridal luncheon at her home on April 8. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Wesley Collins and Mrs. Berl Hughes. The home of Mrs. Mark Abbott was the setting for a bridal shower on April 13. Mrs. Robert Perry, Mrs. Carl Holloway, Mrs. Scott Allen, Mrs. Ken Mills, Mrs. Grady Kirby and Ms. Janell Jones served as co-hostesses. A miscellaneous bridal shower was given by the ladies of Calvary Baptist Church of Hope on May 8. A lingerie shower was given by Jamie Sammer and co-hosted by Sarah Holland on May 13. The rehearsal dinner, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Purtle, was held at Oggies Restaurant in Bartlesville. The room was decorated Bon Voyage on Life's Journey' with palm trees and pink flamingoes. Navy blue table clothes with bright green napkins and Beanie Baby bears were on each table depicting Carribean fun. The bride and groom presented gifts to their attendants after the dinner.
