Ross Wins Primary Runoff Over GrahamBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, June 21, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Dewayne Graham managed to win one box in Clark County in the June 13 runoff election, but still was a big loser overall. The unofficial results showed Mike Ross beating Graham 1,365-526 in the democratic race for Fourth Congressional House of Representatives. Ross will now face incumbent Republican Jay Dickey in the November General Election. Along with winning one box, which is more than Graham was able to do in Nevada County, he managed to tie Ross in two other boxes. Breaking the results down precinct by precinct, Ross captured early and absentee balloting 89-32, and took Arkadelphia general 49-13. From there he edged through Alpine 30-22, and squeaked by in Amity City, 12-10. Ross won Amity City General by a scant 6-5 margin. The margin spread out somewhat in Beirne as Ross posted a 16-5 win, and took Central 54-36. Ross doubled Graham 30-15 in Curtis, but was tied in Caddo Valley inside, 19-19. Caddo Valley outside went to Ross 4-1. Ross's numbers began going up when counting got to the DeGray box, where he beat Graham 39-17. The margin was larger in Gurdon general where Ross posted a 55-12 win. Ross carried Gum Springs inside 29-8, and Gum Springs outside 49-11. In Gurdon Ward 1, Ross took the box, 42-7, and prevailed in Ward 2, 27-2. Gurdon's Ward 3 was no problem as Ross posted a 25-3 win, and took Ward 4, 12-6. Ward 5 went to Ross 38-11, while he earned Ward 6 28-10. The Hollywood community gave Ross its support 26-14, with Joan getting behind him 33-12. In Arkadelphia's JP 1 district, Ross won 35-20, and slaughtered Graham in JP 2, 66-22. JP 3 was a big Ross supporter as he carried it 124-35. He also took JP 4, 87-30. In JP5, Ross more than doubled Graham with a 152-73 win, with Manchester favoring Ross 60-16. No votes were cast in Okolona City 1 and 2. However, Graham did manage to carry Okolona boxes 1, 2 and 3 by a 25-22 margin. Ross returned to his winning ways by taking Okolona General 1, 2, 3, 65-14, then winning in Vaden., 9-7. Graham managed his second tie in the Whelen Springs inside box, with a 9-9 vote. However, Ross was the winner in Whelen Springs outside, 20-8. According to Rhonda Williams, Clark County Clerk, only 14 percent of the registered voters in the county bothered to cast their ballot in the runoff election.
