Dear Editor:

Is it passe to be patriotic and thank God for country? I am disappointed that the recent ceremony on the courthouse square in observance of Memorial Day did not merit even a mention in the newspaper. It is a sad commentary on our times when we fail to pause even once a year to pay tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice for liberty.

I appreciate the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary, the VFW, the National Guard, Veterans Affairs Officer Carroll Morehead everyone who had a part in the Memorial Day 2000 observation. Thank you to all those who helped in years past to secure our freedom.
