Beck Wins Teaching Award From Coca-Cola

The Coca-Cola Scholars program and the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation are proud to announce that Mary Beck, a teacher at Gurdon High School, has been selected as Educator of Distinction.'

Brandi Escalante, one of the 200 finalists for the Coca-Cola Scholarship nominated Mrs. Beck for this award.

Mrs. Beck and her husband, Jerry, live east of Prescott. Their son, Jared, attends school in Prescott.

Each year, their students and the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation recognize 250 educators across the United States.

The Educator of Distinction award is given to recognize an instructor who has impacted a young person's education and life. During the academic awards assembly Mrs. Beck was presented with a plaque and crystal cola shaped statuette. Escalante was presented a $4,000 scholarship. This is the first time this award has been given to a student or a teacher in Gurdon.

Mrs. Beck, who teaches upper level math, has been an educator for 27 years. She is the daughter of Lou Schoonover.

Escalante is the daughter of Stan and Cindie Escalante of Gurdon.
