Rosston NewsBY MARGUERITE WILLIAMSPublished Wednesday, June 7, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune God has blessed us with a good rain, which was needed very much. We spent Monday through Thursday on Lake Columbia with A.B. and Maxine Luck. We have made friends with the Hays and Nix couples of Waldo. They camp, but don't fish. We had to eat fish at Hudgies on the lake before we left there on Thursday evening. the catfish have just about quit biting due to hot weather, but we still enjoy camping. We learned that Billy and Barbara Scheif, the lake host and hostess, are members of Bro. Jerry Evans' church in Taylor. We have become good friends with them. Several from Rosston attended church at Union last week. Bro. Sam Husser was the evangelist. Roscoe and I attended on Thursday night. Jeff and Tara Carlton sang at Laneburg Church Sunday night. They have several other engagements booked. Tommie Lew Jarvis has begun to improve after surgery in a Houston hospital. I talked with her daughter, Pat, and she is sitting up, eating some now. She will start physical therapy tomorrow. Pray that she will soon be well enough to come home. Her sister, Daisy Methvin, of Stephens came and spent a few days with Wayne since he has come home from Houston. Roscoe's sister, Veneta Bustin, of Hillcrest has been doing poorly, but has revived up some. She needs our prayers. Roscoe and I shopped in Texarkana on Friday afternoon. We visited son, Dwight, and his wife, Marion, at the Merle Norman shop in the mall and then had supper at Bryce's Cafeteria. We saw some of my school friends and visited with them a few minutes Buddy and Wanda Rowe of Wake Village, formerly of Washington, and Jamie and Bonnie Boyette of Washington. Bonnie was raised on the Old Wortham place here in Rosston. Bonnie Langston was having asthma problems and did not get to church at Whites Chapel Sunday morning. Bro. Lawrence Bailey preached in Bro. Wayne's place. Bro. Jerry Evans will be preaching at Southside in Hope this week and at White's Chapel next week. Jeff Taylor was the only graduate from our church this year. He was presented a beautiful Bible by Bro. Petie in the morning service. Bob and Jacob Gresham, A.B. Luck and Roscoe have caught enough catfish for the youth of Rosston Church to have a fish fry, which will be June 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. Please remember our granddaughter, Tori Rocole, of Magnolia in your prayers as she is due to have a c-section soon. If you would like to send Tommie Lew Jarvis a card send it in care of her daughter, Pat Kim, 27 Farmham Park, Houston, TX 77024. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
