Oak Grove NewsBY LULA Q. KENDRICKPublished Wednesday, June 7, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune The reason I have not had any news is because I lost my husband and I did not feel like it. I am feeling better than I have been. He told me he was old enough to die. He had three strokes. I miss him very much. I got almost 100 cards. My people from around Stamps called and talked with me, white and black. That makes me feel good. I did not know I had so many friends until after my husband passed away. Another one of our friends, Leon Peter' Gulley, passed away. My neighbor, Charlie Johnson, had to go to the hospital. He is now out and back home. He is a very hard working man. His wife is a very sweet lady. She helped to see about me. I thank the Lord for her. Mrs. Vera Purifoy has also been good to me, along with others. Mrs. Irine Brook came by to see me Saturday afternoon. My grandson calls me every week. He lives in Las Vegas. My niece, Helen Jenkins, calls me twice a week. She is sweet to me. My nephew can't be beat. He drove from Texarkana just to mow my lawn. They are all good to me. It was agreed by members that Rev. Wallace Ingram will do our revival the Monday night after the second Sunday in July. He lives in Rockford, Ill., and he is pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Rev. Coulter will bring the homecoming sermon that Sunday afternoon at Ward Chapel in Prescott. Rev. Lupo and his wife visited Mrs. Purifoy last week. Mrs. Vera Purifoy visited her sister-in-law in Dallas, Texas. She has retired from teaching. Mrs. Purifoy said it was a wonderful affair. Mr. and Mrs. James Williams and wife, Mary Kathrine, visited me last week. My cousin, Bernice and her brother, John L. Turner, came to the funeral. I was glad to see them. They live in Michigan.
