Southwest Football Camp Is July 11-13BY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, June 7, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune It's getting close to time for the annual Southwest Arkansas Football Camp at Prescott High School. The camp will be held July 11-13, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. daily for players in grades 7 through 12. Tuition will be $45 per player, with each camper getting an award and T-shirt. The coaches at the camp have a combined 81 years experience. This year's coaches will be David Bennet of Prescott, John Pace from Gurdon, Hot Springs Lakeside's Gary Segrest and Eddie Jackson from Liberty-Eylau, Texas. Instructional objectives of the camp will be to help quarterbacks with their stance, center exchange, ball handling, faking, footwork, pass release, follow through, play calling and leadership. Running backs will learn the proper stance, ball handling, faking, ball carrying, running, blocking and pass receiving. Those playing the offensive line will be taught the proper stance, starts, blocking techniques and pass protection. Ends and flankers will learn the proper stance, running, pass patterns, pass catching and blocking. Defensive line players will also learn about their stance, pursuit, blow delivery, alignment, reading offensive keys, pass rush and gap responsibility. For those playing linebacker, the camp will teach stance, alignment, pursuit, pass coverage and run responsibilities. Secondary players will be taught stance, alignment, pass coverage, interception reads and footwork. Special teamers will learn deep snapping, punting, place kicking, kick-off return and catching kicks. The camp will also include weight training, showing the players the proper lifting techniques, strength and weight development, weight room safety, use of weight belts and proper use of free weights. In addition, those attending will learn about nutrition and keeping drug free. Deadline to register for the camp will be Thursday, July 6. Registration forms may be obtained from any of those coaching the camp. The forms must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to one of the camp coaches.
