Nevada County Picayune and Gurdon Times Newspaper Archive |
Golden OldiesBY DORIS VANCEPublished Wednesday, June 7, 2000 in the Gurdon Times I didn't get my article in early enough last week for it to be printed. My son-in-law, Mike White, in South Bend, Ind., has been picking it up on the Internet each week. Every time he sees it he says to my daughter, Shirley, "Well, she's done it again." Sorry, Mike. It doesn't seem possible that June should be here. Time passes so quickly. Congratulations to our own Beatrice Stafford who was inducted into the Gurdon Academic Hall of Fame at Commencement exercises on May 19. Beatrice was a teacher for 24 years. Her husband, Ellis, has been a director for CADC for 29 years. Their son, Harold, from Dover, Del., was there to present his mother with a plaque, roses and an apple pin. Beatrice decorates the birthday window every month and plays the piano for us to sing. Thanks, Beatrice. Sybil Harris decorates the birthday window the other two months. Sybil also helps quilt, which she enjoys. Thanks, Sybil. It has been a busy time at the center with all the planning for vacations. We started out June with fish stories on Thursday. Friday we had a ring toss game. The activities for June 5-9 are bingo, someone to speak on legal services, music, exercise, National Park Medical offering blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, our favorite cartoon and show and tell on Friday. We are glad that some of those who have been absent for a while, are back with us. We invite all senior adults to come and join us. There are activities for everyone. The center is a program of Central Arkansas Development Council and a United Way agency. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
