Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, May 26, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesIf you notice CMS students being a little sad, it is probably because they had to turn their textbooks in to their teachers. "Parting is such sweet sorrow" as it has been said! Grades have been turned in and perhaps the worse is to come. Lockers! You would just have to see to believe how much one person can get in a locker and still be able to close the door. In fact, sometimes we have to really work to get the door open as it seems to be jammed. The CMS Student Council had induction of the new officers for the 1999-2000 school year May 19. Sixth grade representatives are Crystal Card, JoLee Jester and Callie King. Seventh grade representatives are Christina Daniels, Christa Hopson and Lezlee White. Eighth grade representative is Becky Lee. Student Council officers are Taylor Pace, parliamentarian; Aaron Charles, treasurer; Krissi Davies, reporter; Allison Anderson, secretary; Jonathon Gonzales, vice president and Lynsey McKenzie, president. While making the presentation of the gavel to Lynsey, Lacey Jester delivered a farewell speech, expressing her thanks and appreciation to the teachers, Mr. Alexander and students for making this year a big success. A gift was presented to Mrs. Clingan for being Student Council sponsor. She will enjoy the gift, as they are patriotic colors, which she seems to prefer. Most important, she enjoys working with the council members and considers it a gift to be able to do that. She is so proud of everything the Student Council has accomplished this year. The food drive was a big success, conducting monthly assembly for the student body and having the Cabe Middle School yearbook were great accomplishments. Looking forward to next year. Citizen students for May are Randall Weeks, fifth grade; Syndey Foshee, sixth grade; Kim Hulan, seventh grade; and Elizabeth Ezell, eighth grade. Mrs. Butler, fifth grade science teacher, assisted Daniel Stroder, Kyle Rogers and Natalie Tarpley as they shared their science projects, explaining how they worked to the audience. Great job, students! Mrs. Bullard, junior high cheerleader sponsor, introduced the new squad to the audience. Ninth graders are Claya Calley, Lacey Jester, Bonnie Ferguson, Tracy Coplen, Jamie Smith and Tamera Henry. Eighth graders are Jill Plyler and Kayla Wells. Seventh graders are Taylor Pace, Haley Griffin and Blair Griffin. A big thank you to Mrs. Bullard for her willingness to sponsor the cheerleaders. The cheerleaders sponsored a volleyball day on May 20. Students enjoyed the competition and the concession stand. Several cheerleader moms worked in the concession stand as they sold nachos, candy, popcorn and pop. The awards assembly will be today, Wednesday, May 26, at 9:00 a.m. in the GHS gym. Parents may sign their child out after the assembly. Next week will bring this school year to a close. Plans are already being made to make next year even better as we continue to make those classy moments at CMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
