Truck Needed Soon

Published Wednesday, May 26, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

Jim Hurst, a member of the Gurdon Water and Sewer Commission, will be looking into getting a new truck for the Water and Sewer Department. Once Hurst finds a vehicle fitting the specifications with a decent price, it will be presented to the commission for approval.

Deadlines for the commission to purchase from the state were moved, leaving Gurdon's bid two weeks late for the purchase of a truck. Now state bid packets will come out September 1, making it December before the vehicle would be in Gurdon.

Computer troubles still hassle the commission at Gurdon City Hall. With all the billing numbers on DOS, the transfer to Windows is slow. If problems continue the commission spoke of getting assistance.

A system for the R.V. sewage dumping out at Gurdon Park may have to be an assembled package, according to Hurst. In this package, the commission will have automatic controls put in the specifications. An antenna on the water tower will signal the controls at the park so no one from the water department will have to be present for the dumping of the sewage.

Smoking the water and sewage lines in the city of Gurdon will have to wait on the weather. When it drys out some the Water and Sewer Department employees will put the new smoke machine to use, testing the lines for leaks. The harmless smoke will come to the surface where ever there is a leak.

Easements for the rural water project in the Greenville area and extension on Red Springs Road are going well, Hurst said. Few easements are still unfinished, mostly because the letters are still trying to find some people. If the persons are not found to deal with the easement issue on a piece of land, there is a court process the Water and Sewer Department goes through to see about having the easement approved.
