Gov. Mike Huckabee said he's pleased most of the state's top high school seniors who attended the annual Honors Day ceremonies at the Governor's Mansion plan to attend college in Arkansas.

The governor wanted to know what the top Arkansas students plan to do after they graduate from high school. Each year on the first Saturday in May the governor hosts the valedictorians and salutatorians from all Arkansas high schools.

This year as he and first lady Janet Huckabee met with 482 students at the Governor's Mansion, the governor asked them about their plans and kept a record of their answers.

"I was pleased to see the vast majority of them do plan to attend college in Arkansas," the governor said. "I view this as a challenge to do all we can to attract good jobs to Arkansas so these students can remain in the state after they graduate."

Only 78 of the students polled plan to attend college in another state. Five were undecided about their future.

The largest number plan to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
