Golden OldiesBY DORIS VANCEPublished Wednesday, May 24, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Bro. Glen Shults, pastor of New Caney Baptist Church, sang for the senior adults last Wednesday. We really enjoyed his singing and appreciate him taking the time to do this for us. A group from the center enjoyed a picnic on Thursday. Friday Charlotte Shepherd, center director, took a group to Hot Springs to shop. The square dancers also danced on Friday. This week we will play bingo, exercise, hear singing from Lloyd Baumgardner, and there will be another shopping trip on Thursday. The center will be closed May 29 for Memorial Day. We will have the monthly birthday party on Tuesday and music on Wednesday. The monthly council meeting for the center will be Tuesday, May 23. The month of May has really flown by. I guess as I get older I realize it more. An invitation is extended to all senior adults to attend the center in Gurdon. We have plenty of activities to enjoy and I am sure there is something for everyone to enjoy. The center is a very important part of our community. Those who are homebound can enjoy a good, hot meal that is delivered every day except the weekends and holidays. Provisions are made for meals for those days. The vans run each day to Okolona, Smithton, town and Curtis on Tuesdays. We have a good meal, prepared by our cooks, for a $1 donation. Our love and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones recently. Also to those who are ill or have not been able to be out. If you wish for more information regarding the center, you may call 353-2095. The center is a program of Central Arkansas Development Council and a United Way agency.
