Red Springs EHCPublished Wednesday, May 24, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesCreative furnishing, create with color was the program given to the Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club by Sybil Harris and Sharon Hank May 11 at the Gurdon Municipal Building. Color can be used creatively to provide a new and fresh look for the home. Color does different things for different people. Blue is a cool color and is thought to induce calm and sleepiness by depressing the nervous system. Purple is a cool and warm hue on the color wheel, making them hard to pin down emotionally. Purple and violet colors are best left for accent pieces. Because of its association with freshness and nature, green evokes a peaceful secure feeling. It has been known to slow down the heart rate and circulation. Yellow is thought to lift the spirits. If can be hot or cold depending on the amount of red ti contains. Red, a hot color, is daring and passionate and has been shown to increase the heart rate. It is best used for accessories. Repaint walls or trim, paint furniture, change curtain colors, replace accessories, such as lamp shades, add a colorful rug or bedspread, arrange a bouquet of spring flowers. There are just a few ideas Sybil and Sharon gave using color to liven and freshen up the home. President Tootsie Dempsey presided over the business session. Mary McBride led the songs Arkansas and Wonderful Words of Life. Larece Friemon gave the reading You Are Loved. Betty Cook gave Rules for the Daily Life and Sybil Harris read Somebody as the inspirational thought. Fifteen members and two visitors, Nola Frances and Pauline Gibson, answered roll call by naming something they created to furnish their homes. Sybil Harris was elected vice president to finish out the term vacated by Kathryn Burchfield. Reports were given on the apples for teachers project, the booth at the county flea market and the state meeting to be held at the Hot Springs Convention Center in June. The meeting adjourned with the reading, I Know Something Good About You. Lunch was served at noon with Lorece Friemon and Tootsie Dempsey serving as hostesses.
