James Orville Pete' Newberry, 64, of Gurdon died Thursday, May 11, 2000.

Mr. Newberry was a retired self-employed welder and truck driver. He was a member of Red Springs Missionary Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Stroud Newberry of Gurdon; one son, James O. Newberry Jr. of Gurdon; two daughters, Marquette Braswell and her husband Gene of Royal and Dewana Smith and her husband Joey of Gurdon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Newberry of Gurdon; two grandsons, Matthew Gills and Tanner Smith; three granddaughters, Michal Asleigh Gills and Abbey and Lindsy Smith; and a sister, Evelyn Glover of Gurdon.

Services were held Saturday, May 13, at Red Springs Baptist Church with interment in Easley Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon
