Gurdon's baseball Go-Devils enjoyed a good year on the diamond, coming within a win of making the regional tournament.

The Devils opened the season on the road against a tough Bismarck Lion team.

The Lions handed Gurdon a 12-2 loss, with the game called in five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Next on the list was Gurdon's first home game, but against another seasoned foe Junction City.

The Dragons dropped Gurdon to 0-2 with a 10-2 win at Cabe Field.

However, the Devils got on the winning track as they ventured to Prescott for the Prescott Invitational Tournament.

Gurdon posted its first win, 8-4, over their arch-rivals, and followed this up by pummeling Lewisville 22-3, and won the tourney with a 19-1 victory over Nevada's Blue Jays.

Then it was time for the Devils to meet Blevins.

The Hornets used a seventh-inning rally to steal a 7-3 win. Blevins managed to score six times in the final frame for the victory.

This didn't set well with Gurdon and the Yellow Jackets of Stamps were punished for what Blevins did.

Stamps was victimized 11-5 in a five-inning tilt, as the Devils scored eight runs in the second inning alone.

Gurdon's bats went cold when they faced Lockesburg as the Blue Darters posted a 13-1 win against the Devils.

In round two against Blevins the Devils had a chance to make up for the earlier season loss.

However, the Hornets again came through with the win in their last at-bat to drop the Devils 4-3.

Once again, the next team, in this case Stephens, took Gurdon's wrath after a loss.

The Roadrunners were caught, hobbled, then pounded as Gurdon demolished Stephens 12-5 in five innings.

Then it was on the road to Lewisville for the second tilt against the Red Devils.

The Go-Devils, for the second time, handled Lewisville 8-4.

Nevada had to make the trip from Rosston to Gurdon, only to get humiliated as the Devil's bats were on fire.

Gurdon hammered the Jays 12-1 in five.

This was followed by a slugfest against Stamps with Gurdon the visiting team.

However, when the smoke cleared the Devils had again dispatched the Jackets, this time 11-8.

Gurdon's third meeting with Lewisville wasn't as easy as the first two. In fact, the Devils had to fight to hang on to an early lead before subduing the Red Devils 2-0.

Round three against Blevins simply wasn't pretty.

Gurdon took a 2-1 lead after one, but went to sleep offensively for the rest of the game.

Blevins, though, came alive, again jumping on Gurdon pitching late to post a 12-2 win and sweep the Devils.

In the district tourney Gurdon met Mt.Ida and came away with a hard-fought 6-5 win.

The Devils were eliminated by Horatio after being forced to move the game from Horatio to Foreman because a rainstorm had left the Lions' field in poor condition.

Horatio was able to clip Gurdon 3-0.

Still, the Devils had a good year on the diamond posting an 11-6 record overall and winning the district title.

Gurdon also showed plenty of pop in the bat with 11 home runs on the year.

Colby Pace went yard eight times, with Daniel McElhannon hitting two dingers. K. Reed had the other homer.
