The Arkansas Department of Health announces the availability of funds to support abstinence education efforts for the period October 1 through September 30, 2001. A request for proposal, which includes an application packet, may be obtained by contacting Shaun Addison at 501-661-2019. Applications are due on June 30.

The Smithpeters family will be have a reunion at 262 Dickerson Road Sunday, June 4, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Potluck lunch will be served, with all friends and family invited.

The annual Kenneth Hughes family reunion will be held Sunday, May 28, at the home of Perry Don and Shirley Williams on the Beirne-Whelen Highway. A potluck lunch will be served. Everyone is invited to share family memories.

Mike Osborn and Shelia Stambaugh of Gurdon are proud to announce the birth of their son, Samuel Charles Osborn born Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.

He weighed 6 pounds and 12= ounces and was 19= inches long.

Grandparents are David Osborn of Gurdon, Mary Embry of Irving, Texas, and Polly Murphy of Bridgeport, Texas. Great grandmother is Ann Stambaugh of Denson, Texas.

Warren-Fretwell family reunion will be held Saturday, June 10, at Gurdon City Park. Potluck lunch will be served. Take your lawn chairs for a day of visiting and picture taking. Fishing is encouraged.

The relatives of Albert and Nancy Smith are invited to a family reunion to be held June 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Potluck will be served.

Covenant Women's Conference, Break Through 2000,' featuring guest speakers Min. Jerime Horton, Min. Jessie Harris and Margret McGhee, pastor, will be held on May 31 through June 2 at Carrie Street Church of God. Nightly meeting begins at 7:00. For more information call Carolyn Crow at 246-6110.

The annual Mauldin reunion will be held Saturday, May 27, at Gurdon Lake on Highway 67. It starts at 10:30 a.m. with potluck lunch to follow. Everyone is invited.

DeGray Lake Resort State Park will be hosting a bluegrass concert Saturday, May 27, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free. Take your own chairs. Concert will be held at the state park amphitheater. For more information call 865-2801.

The board of directors of Southwest Central Regional Solid Waste Management District will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at the offices of West Central Arkansas Planning and Development District in Hot Springs.

The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend.

The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather.

Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
