Prescott Little League Growing; Field Repaired IncorrectlyBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 24, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Little League baseball in Prescott is growing. Jeff Haynes, president of the Prescott Baseball Association, told the Prescott City Council the minor league system added 44 more children, creating another full team. There will also be three teams in the Little League Majors, while two teams will make up the Dixie League. For the first time in a while, Prescott will field an American Legion team for ball players age 15-17. The AL team is coached by Pat Fulmer. Overall, Haynes said, 166 children will be participating in Prescott's baseball programs this summer. However, he said, there has been no report on the softball program as yet. Haynes asked the council for money to purchase more of the yellow plastic tubing to cover the top of fences. Not only does it look nice, he said, but also provides visibility and safety for the players. The fields have chain link fences with barbs at the top. This tubing covers the barbs thereby protecting the players. The fields at Bemis, McRae and Livingston were measured by Haynes, who told the council some 3,000 feet of the tubing would be needed. The council approved spending $3,000 for tubing at these three fields. Haynes gave the council bad news concerning the softball field at McRea. He said the wrong surface was used when building the infield and must now be dug up and replaced. The problem is the field needs to be dry before the infield can be dug up and resurfaced.
