Coulter Elected SBA PresidentPublished Wednesday, May 24, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneAlex Duwon Coulter, 28, was recently elected president of the Student Bar Association (SBA) at the University of Tulsa College of Law in Tulsa, Okla. He is the first African-American to be elected as SBA president in the history of the university. Coulter will represent the graduating class of 2001 and preside over an enrollment of 500 students. The SBA president's primary roll is to act as a liaison between the law students and the faculty at the Tulsa College of Law. Coulter has also been selected to represent the law school at the American Bar Association/Law Student Division annual conference this summer in New York City. Prior to the election he was appointed to the University of Tulsa's College of Law Supreme Court, where he served as a supreme court justice. Coulter is a native of Texarkana, Texas, and a graduate of Longview High School in Longview, Texas. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for six years and served a tour of duty during Desert Shield/Storm. A graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., he received a bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1996. He graduated with academic honors. Coulter is the son of the late Billy Joe Neal Coulter and Vasti and Edward Fisher. He is the grandson of the late Lawrence and Ola Mae Coleman of Rosston (Oak Grove community).
