Rosston NewsBy MARGUERITE WILLIAMSPublished Wednesday, May 17, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Last week's news: Another busy week as usual. The rain was great and we have had some beautiful days. However, I believe summer is almost here and I'm one who doesn't like hot weather. Visitors in church Sunday were Max and Ruth Hill of Dallas; Bro. Olivie Dorman of Bodcaw and the Elliott family of Willisville. We welcome visitors each and every service. We returned home from Columbia Lake on Tuesday and so did A.B. and Maxine Luck. The Bog Gresham's came home on Monday. The Max Hills have been at their vacation home in Rosston since Thursday. They had a fish supper at Woods in Camden on Saturday night. Roscoe and I were supper guests on Sunday night after church. Pat Jarvis Kim came on Friday to pick up her mother, Tommie Lew Jarvis. She had an eye appointment for her in Houston on Monday. Roscoe and I attended the Washington School reunion at Western Sizzlin in Hope this weekend. On Saturday night Clifford and Jane Cox and Lucille McCormack of Hope; Billy and Minnie Ella Schmitt of Hope; Bernice Salsibury of Miami, Okla.; Charlene Salisbury of Jacksonville, Texas; and Roscoe and I had supper at Western Sizzlin. Afterward we went to the Clifford Cox home for a nice visit. Roscoe and I had lunch with Billy and Minnie E. Schmitt on Saturday. Saturday morning, Mary Margaret Haynes, Belva June Glanton and I decorated the Watermelon Room at Western Sizzlin. At 2 p.m. registration and visitation began. We had our meal at 6 p.m. A good number was present and everyone had a great time. The class of 1940 was honored at it was their 60th year. Eight of the class members were deceased and we honored them by burning eight white candles in their memory. Mary Margaret Haynes, a member of the class, gave a talk and we had a silent prayer. Clifford Cox was the emcee for the occasion. Our former English teacher, Miss Bennie Jean Bledsoe of Arkadelphia, made a very interesting talk. We had school members from Arizona, Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma there besides a good number from Arkansas. we voted to meet again in two years. A beautiful wedding shower was given on Sunday afternoon in the fellowship hall at Bluff Springs Church for Jace Jarvis and Lesley Grimes. This was given by the ladies of Bluff Springs and some from Rosston. Those attending from Rosston were Helen Daniel, Judy O'Keefe, Jeanette Goodeau, Elsie Williams, Sue Hart, Valeria O'Keefe, Cindy Taylor, Lyn Dean, Wendy and Amy Morman, Dot Broussard, Ruth Vinson and myself. Nancy Biddle made the beautiful cake. They received many lovely gifts. The young men of the church are having a fishing trip on Columbia Lake on Friday night and Saturday. There will be a ladies retreat at Rosston Church soon. I will have more information later. Our son, Jim, of Prescott visited us on Tuesday and had lunch with us.
