Nicki Rutherford, a 1999 graduate of Gurdon High School, has been awarded a technical scholarship at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope.

The scholarship is based on ACT score and grade point average plus a recommendation from a school official.

Rutherford is the daughter of Jerry and Lori Rutherford of Gurdon and will be studying radiology basics.

The Ellis College of Arts and Sciences of Henderson State University recently presented the first annual Ellis College awards.

This year's awards were given in two categories of Outstanding Graduating Senior and Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Receiving an award from Gurdon was Kara Thomas, Outstanding Freshman Academic Achievement Award.

All students receiving award was for their exemplary performance and service to the university.

The Office of Academic Affairs at Henderson State University recently announced that 203 collegians earned dean's list status and approximately 337 students made the university's honor roll for the spring semester of 1999.

Making the dean's list from Gurdon are Amanda M. Francis, Courtney S. Thomas and Grant R. Woods.

Those on the honor roll from Gurdon are Jeri L. Allen, Teri L. Dillard, Charles Quincy, Christopher P. Roe, Donald A. Sporer, Kara M. Thomas and Melanie D. Wilson.

Dr. Robert Houston, vice president of academic affairs, said that in order to qualify for the dean's list, the student had to earn a perfect 4.0 on 12 or more semester hours of course work.

Students on the honor roll were required to earn a 3.5 grade point average on 12 or more semester hours.

Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia conferred degrees to 320 student on May 14.

SAU May graduates included Katie Lynn McKinnon of Gurdon with a bachelor of science in agriculture business.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed McKinnon and the granddaughter of Peggy Cox.

UA at Fayetteville May graduates included Lilly Montgomery of Gurdon with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
