Published Wednesday, May 17, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

Harold Ellis Stafford, who is the son of Ellis and Beatrice Stafford, of Gurdon recently returned from Taipei, Taiwan, where he represented the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO) to expand international trade with the Taiwan government.

As director of administration for DEDO, Stafford traveled to Taiwan to lease office space from the Taiwan government in which to establish a satellite office for DEDO. He also hired staff to manage the office and contracted with a certified public accountant to oversee the office's financial affairs.

Stafford also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs to formalize plans in preparation for the proposed July 2000 grand opening of Delaware's satellite office, which will be presided over by a special delegation from Delaware that will consist of the governor, corporate executives and state legislators.

Stafford is a 1966 graduate of Bell High School and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and political science from Henderson State University in 1970. He received a master's degree in 1973 from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Research in Pennsylvania, and has over 25 years of program administration and management experience.

He is married to the former Velvia Albert of Gurdon and they have three children, Alisa, Brian and Stephanie. Stafford and his family currently reside in Dover, Del.
