Potlatch Awards Scholarships

The Potlatch Foundation for Higher Education announced its award of 17 college scholarships valued at more than $95,000 to Arkansas high school graduates.

The renewable four-year scholarships, worth $1,400 a year, are renewable on an annual basis for four years with each scholarship having a potential value of $5,600.

Three seniors receiving Potlatch scholarships in 2000 are Juan B. Jimenez from Blevins High School and Rachel Dougan and Albert A. Kisselburg of Prescott High School.

Applicants from Arkansas, Minnesota and Idaho applied for the 80 scholarships that were awarded this year.

The Potlatch scholarships program that was established in 1952 has helped more than 2,000 students seek a college education.

Potlatch Corporation, founded in 1903, is a diversified forest products company with 1.5 million acres of timberland in Arkansas, Idaho and Minnesota.

In Arkansas Potlatch has 500,000 acres of timberland and employs almost 1,000 people. Manufacturing facilities in Arkansas are at Warren, Prescott and Cypress Bend near McGehee.
