Bluff City NewsBy JERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, May 10, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Looks like gas prices are creeping up again. I guess I need to invest in a funnel to use to gas up my mower. I would hate to waste a drop of that precious liquid. There was a larger crowd this year at the Bluff City community homecoming. I don't know who traveled the longest distance to be there, but it could possibly be Mr. and Mrs. Larnell Nichols from Abilene, Texas. They recently moved to Abilene from Lubbock, Texas, where they had lived for many years. Kay Sellers was called to the bedside of one of her brothers, who was seriously burned in an explosion at work earlier in the week. He was in a Greenville, Miss., hospital and suddenly took a turn for the worse. This is another in a series of trials this family has faced in recent months. Remember them in your prayers. Congratulations to Ashley McKelvy, who will receive her bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Arkansas on May 13. Congratulations are also in order for the high school graduates from this area. Those I am aware of are Michael Sellers, Sean Meador, Joey McKelvy and Jeremy McKelvy. There may be others. We wish the best to all these graduates as they make their mark in the world. If you need a name for one of your pets, you might call Lexi Nelson, granddaughter of James and Kay Nelson. James says she has no trouble coming up with a name, but he had to overrule her when she wanted to name one of his dogs Sarah. James said he didn't think he wanted a dog named Sarah. Here's an item from long ago. The year was 1887. Mr. John Nichols from Bluff City, familiarly known as "Honest John," was in Prescott Saturday on his way to the Nation to buy ponies. A thought from E. W. Howe, "Even if a farmer intends to loaf, he gets up in time to get an early start". Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
