Nevada High School Graduation Is May 18; Top Seniors Named

Nevada High School graduation exercises will be held Thursday, May 18, at 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

The address to the seniors will be given by Judge Lavenski Smith, Associate Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court. Fifty-five seniors will be graduating.

Seniors graduating with highest honors include:

Justin Curtis of Rosston, the son of Jack and Beverly Curtis.

His school activities include National Honor Society; Future Business Leaders of America; Drug-Free Team years; baseball; and basketball. He has a 3.97 GPA. Curtis was awarded an alumni scholarship to Southern Arkansas University (SAU). During high school he was named Mister NHS and prom king.

Carlesha Mixon of Rosston is the daughter of Bonnie Sue Mixon.

Her school activities include National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Project Pals, Drug-Free Team, Future Teachers of America and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has a 3.97 GPA. Mixon also received an alumni scholarship to SAU.

Melanie Williams of Buckner is the daughter of Dwight and Phyllis Williams.

Her school activities include National Honor Society; Future Business Leaders of America; Drug-Free Team; Project Pals; Miss NHS; senior class president; yearbook editor; French Club; and Art Club. A senior of distinction, Williams has a 3.95 GPA. She has also received an alumni scholarship to SAU.

Melissa Niemeyer of Prescott is the daughter of Steve and Sherry Niemeyer.

Her School activities include National Honor Society; Future Business Leaders of America; Drug Free Team; French Club; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; co-editor of yearbook; gifted and talented; a member of the homecoming court; included in Who's Who and president of NHS. Niemeyer has a 3.91 GPA. A senior of distinction she received an academic scholarship to UA Community College at Hope.

Lacey Pipkin of Rosston is the daughter of Kerry and Debbie Pipkin.

Her school activities includes National Honor Society; Future Business Leaders of America; Drug-Free Team; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; French Club; class officer; Student Council; yearbook co-editor; Who's Who; and gifted and talented. Pipkin has a 3.82 GPA. She received the French I Award; Biology Award; and an academic scholarship to UA Community College of Hope.

Brittany Bailey of Willisville is the daughter of David and Lisa Bailey.

Her school activities include National Honor Society; Future Business Leaders of America; Gifted and Talented; Drug-Free Team; and Accelerated Plan of Study. Bailey has a 3.81 GPA. She received a foundation scholarship to SAU.

Seniors graduating with high honors are:

LaShanna Dillard of Emmet, the daughter of Donnie and Dianne Dillard.

Her school activities National Honor Society; French Club; Future Business Leaders of America; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Drug-Free Team; and journalism. Dillard has a 3.77 GPA. She received the Chemistry Award and won an academic scholarship to UA Community College at Hope.

Amber Hawthorne of Hope is the daughter of Sindee Hawthrone.

Her school activities inclkude National Honor Society, Drug-Free Team; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Future Business Leaders of America; gifted and talented; Who's Who; and Art Club. Hawthorne has a 3.74 GPA. She has a leadership scholarship to SAU.

Jeff Pinto of Rosston is the son of Nancy and Brent Holcomb.

His school activities include National Honor Society; gifted and talented; Future Business Leaders of America; Art Club; French Club; and Quiz Bowl. The senior of distinction has a GPA of 3.74. Pinto received the National Science Award and National History Award. He received the Award of Achievement to Henderson State University.

Brenisha Young of Buckner is the daughter of Joe and Brenda Jones.

Her school activities include National Honor Society; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Future Teachers of America; Project Pals; Future Business Leaders of America; Drug-Free Team; Who's Who; and FFA. Young has a 3.73 GPA. She received a technical scholarship to UA Community College at Hope.

Beth Neel of Rosston is the daughter of Richard and Lisa McCain and Bobby and Connie Neel.

Her school activities include National Honor Society; Student Council president; Drug-Free Team; National Business Leaders of America (district winner); French Club; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; yearbook co-editor; gifted and talented; Quiz Bowl; class officer; Who's Who; a HOBY Ambassador; and Art Club. Neel, a senior of distinction, has a 3.71 GPA. She received the DAR Good Citizen Award and the presidential scholarship to Central Baptist College in Conway.

Nevada seniors graduating with honors are:

Dionne Williams of Rosston is the daughter of Brenda Williams.

Her school activities include National Honor Society; Drug Free Team; Project Pals; Future Teachers of America; Future Business Leaders of America (district winner); cheerleading captain; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Who's Who; FFA. Williams, a senior of distinction, has a 3.56 GPA. She will attend University of Central Arkansas in Conway to major in physical therapy.

Terry Sanders of Rosston is the son of Kim and Tim Boyd.

Her school activities include National Honor Society; Future Business Leaders of America; French Club; Drug-Free Team; baseball; and gifted and talented. Sanders has a 3.53 GPA. She received a technical scholarship to UA Community College at Hope.

Jackie Lynn House of Rosston is the daughter of Jack and Lynn House.

Her school activities includes National Honor Society; Future Business Leaders of America officer (district winner); homecoming court; Drug-Free Team; Student Council president; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Who's Who. and class officer. House has a 3.42 GPA. She received a technical scholarship to UA Community College at Hope.
