Rescue Course Is Planned For SaturdayBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 10, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Emergency personnel will have the opportunity to participate in a helicopter ground support and patient extrication course Saturday, May 13. The course will be held at the Emmet Community Center from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. with a break for lunch from noon until 1 p.m. It is designed to introduce or reinforce current concepts, strategies and procedures used by LifeNet's flight program during air medical operations. The course is designed for emergency personnel who would likely be involved in such circumstances, such as firemen, first responders, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, dispatchers and private citizens who are interested. Those who successfully complete the course will be given a certificate from the Arkansas Department of Health. The course also counts toward continuing education hours for EMTs, EMT-1s, and EMT-Ps, along with RNs, and LVNs for type II. Students will be given a lesson on air medical history, access to the system, how to use the system appropriately, landing zones and helicopter safety, firefighting and specialized rescue, patient packaging and loading, and the principals of extrication.
