Miss Gurdon Lake Pageant Is Saturday

Clark County Youth Development Center (CCYDC) will sponsor the eight annual Miss Gurdon Lake pageant Saturday, May 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the old Gurdon Middle School auditorium.

The pageant is open to children ages birth to 21, who meet the requirements that are set forth by the pageant committee of CCYDC.

Pageant divisions are as follows: Infant, birth to four years; Tiny Miss, 5-9 years; Pre-Teen, 10-12 years; Junior Miss, 13-15 years; and Miss Gurdon Lake, 16-21 years.

The Pre-Teen division will compete on introduction, talent, sportswear and projection.

The Junior Miss and Miss Gurdon Lake divisions will compete on introduction, talent, swimwear, evening gown and projection.

All participants are required to pay an entrance fee of $5 and submit a recent photo, preferably black and white. However, color photos will also be accepted.

The CCYDC pageant is the group's annual fund-raiser. The funds will assist in sponsoring programs, purchasing equipment for the center and supporting other worthwhile activities and projects in the community.

The pageant also provides an opportunity for the youth to perform on stage and to develop poise and self-esteem.

The winners in each of the five divisions will receive a trophy, crown, flowers, participation certificate and banner. In the Infant and Tiny Miss divisions, the winners will each receive $50. In the Pre-Teen division, the winner will receive $75. In the Junior division, the winner receives $100. In the Miss Gurdon Lake division, the winner will receive $250.

All participants in every division is requested to sell ads for the souvenir book, the largest ad sales winner (regardless of division) will receive $100. First and second place runners-up in each division will also receive trophies.

Application forms are available at CCYDC, 810 South 5th Street, Gurdon. The center will accept applications through April 7.
