Four Gurdon High Students Named As Boys State Delegates

Four juniors from Gurdon High School will attend Boys State this summer, which will be held at UCA in Conway.

They are Adam Clark, Justin Uchtman, Kenneth O'Connell and Jordan Freer.

The young men are given access to their state representatives, senators and other high ranking officials when they leave the campus to go to the State Capitol in Little Rock.

Boys State is an opportunity provided by the American Legion. Specific sponsors this year include American Legion, Lloyd King Post 96' Austin and Mary Lou Capps; First State Bank of Gurdon; and the Gurdon Rotary Club.

Clark, 16, is the son of Wayne and Gail Clark of Gurdon.

He has been a member of the GHS football team for the past five years and he is active in the local FFA chapter. He has held office in the FFA for the past three years. Clark attends South Fork Baptist Church and is a member of M-PACT youth ministries.

In the future, he plans to attend Southern Arkansas University, majoring in agriculture related fields.

Uchtman, 16, is the son of Eddie and Connie Ucthman.

He is involved in FFA, 4-H and has played football for the past five years. He is a member of the Red Springs Baptist Church and is employed by Woolf's Service Center.

Uchtman plans to attend Tulsa Welding School after graduation.

O'Connell, 17, is the son of Bill and Nina O'Connell.

He is a member of First United Pentecostal Church of Gurdon.

O'Connell's extra-curricular activities include hunting, various sports, Beta Club and National Honor Society.

Freer, 17, is the son of Ron and Judy Freer.

He attends and is a member of Beech Street Baptist Church in Gurdon.

Freer is a member of the GHS golf team, who were the regional champions this year. He enjoys hunting and playing golf, while remaining an active member of Beta Club and National Honor Society.
