Gurdon High School Graduation Is May 19; Top Seniors NamedBY RICKY RAGSDALEPublished Wednesday, May 10, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Leonard Gills, principal at Gurdon High School, has announced the top 10 academic seniors of 1999-2000. Co-valedictorians are Brandi Escalante and Andrew Wilson. Escalante is the daughter of Stan and Cindie Escalante of Gurdon. She has received the Presidential Academic Scholarship from Baylor University, Coca-Cola Scholarship, and the Arkansas School Board Scholarship. She plans to attend Baylor University in the fall and major in pre-medicine. Wilson is the son of Roy and Elizabeth Wilson of Gurdon. He has received the Chancellor's Scholarship from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Wilson plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in the fall and major in sociology with a minor in criminology and philosophy. Salutatorian is Whitney Hogue. Hogue is the daughter of Jimmy and Linda Gayle Hogue. She has received the Trustees Academic Scholarship from the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). Hogue plans to attend the UCA in the fall, where she has been accepted into the honor's college. She plans to major in computer science. The remainder of the top 10 students for the class of 2000 are Heather Davies, Jessica Guthrie, Christina Schee, Chady Calley, Brandon Gattis, Bryan Anderson and Cassie Lynn. Commencement ceremonies for these and all graduating seniors will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the new Go-Devil Stadium on Highway 67.
