PHS Band Ensemble Is SuperiorPublished Wednesday, May 3, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott High School wind ensemble captured a first superior rating of the new millennium last Thursday with a one, one, and two rating at the State Band and Solo and Ensemble Contest. This is the second first division for the band in state competition in five years, and the third for the band program overall. The Prescott concert band also competed and received an excellent rating of two, two, and three. This is the first year the Prescott band has split into two performing groups for the spring semester, Jonathan Kelly, band director at the school, said. In the Solo division Cameron Wiley, Amanda Phillips, Scotty Robertson and Jessica Brooks received second division ratings on their instruments of trombone, flute, tuba and trumpet, respectively. First division honors went to Russell Neimyer on xylophone, Staci Stuart on clarinet and Kenny Wiley on saxophone. The percussion ensemble of Russell Niemyer, Gus Kisselburg, Jack Nelson, Leslie Russell, John Brown and Aaron Inscore also took home first division honors.
