Bids Open for Highway ContractPublished Wednesday, June 2, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for a project to improve a Nevada County highway, according to Highway Commissioner Mary P. 'Prissy' Hickerson of Texarkana. The project will resurface a 7.31-mile section of Highway 24 East from Highway 53 to the Ouachita County line. Texarkana Asphalt of Texarkana, Texas, was awarded a $596,853 contract for the work. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 1. "The Commission believes it is very important to take care of our existing facilities and the overlay program is a cost-effective way of accomplishing that," Hickerson noted. "We will spend about $20 million on overlays this year." Hickerson said construction could begin in six to eight weeks, weather permitting.
