Prescott Band Members Earn Awards

Prescott School band members recently won 63 medals at a contest at Magnet Cove High School near Malvern.

There were 56 students from the Prescott bands who participated in the Region III solo and ensemble contest Saturday, April 15. The students in grades six through twelve performed individual selections and small group works in a variety of styles.

Overall the band members took home 56 first division medals and seven second division medals. In addition seven high school students qualified to participate in the state solo and ensemble contest this week.

Those performing solos at state will be Russell Niemyer, keyboard percussion; Cameron Wiley, trombone; Scotty Robertson, tuba; Jessica Brooks, trumpet; Kenny Wiley, alto sax; Amanda Phillips, flute; and Staci Stuart, clarinet.

The percussion ensemble also qualified to perform at state.

Members of the percussion ensemble are Gus Kisselburg, Jack Nelson, Russell Niemyer, Leslie Russell, John Brown and Aaron Inscore.

The state contest will be held at Harding University April 27, 28 and 29. Prescott's performance day has yet to be announced when band director Jonathan Kelly released this information to the Picayune.
