Golden OldiesBy DORIS VANCEPublished Wednesday, April 26, 2000 in the Gurdon Times We have been having such beautiful weather to enjoy. It's a reminder of God's love for sending his only son into the world to die for us. Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. Last week we played bingo, held our monthly council meeting, and went to eat at Bowen's for dine-out night. The school jazz band played for us Wednesday. We really appreciate GHS band director Allen Wimberly and GPS music teacher Jerry Don Childers for including the senior adults in their performance schedules. April 24-28, those with April birthdays will enjoy birthday cake from Thomason's Big Star. The honorees are James Franklin, Bobbye Toombs, Barbara Weems, Lula Mae Bailey, Gennie Cunningham, Nadine Logan and Junior Thrasher. Lloyd Baumgardner will be singing for us Wednesday, April 26. The drivers at the center were asked to express what the center means to each of them in letters. Esther Thrasher, one of the drivers, wrote of her endearment for the folks' she works with. Both on the pick-up route bringing in seniors and the lunch route which provides hot meals for the homebound seniors of Gurdon. Thrasher stated in her letter, "I feel I can help every person I come in contact with equally, whether sick or well, happy or sad, and for this reason, I'm proud to work for the CADC." We appreciate our volunteers and staff very much. The center is a program of Central Arkansas Development Council and a United Way agency.
