Classy Moments - from CMS

Published Wednesday, April 26, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

Spring pictures have been taken. Several students were making certain their hair was in place, practiced smiles, and made ready for the photographer to say, "Look this way and smile." Groups of friends had pictures made together. Now, the wait until the finished products arrive.

The candidates for offices in the CMS Student Council met Wednesday with Mrs. Clingan to go over speeches. Thursday was the big day when speeches were given. Although they were nervous standing in front of about 300 students, those candidates did a great job. It was as though they were old hands in speech making. Good job.

The New Edition 2000 from Peake Elementary School in Arkadelphia performed for Cabe Middle School students at the assembly. Their director, Gwen Fullen, had them well prepared. Those students kept time with each movement, note and gesture. They were simply wonderful and we enjoyed their performance so much that already several requests have been made for them to come back next year.

The election took place for the new officers and representatives in Student Council. It was a very close race this time for several positions.

Sixth grade representatives are Porcha Anderson, Christian Hopson and Josh Lockwood.

Seventh grade representatives are Marco Giles, Jolee Jester and Callie King.

Representing the eighth grade will be Jessie Livingston, Haleigh McDaniel and Lezlee White.

Each grade is allowed three representatives and there was competition in each grade.

The officers are Krissi Davies, parliamentarian, Carolanne Duke, reporter, Colton McClure, treasurer, Allison Anderson, secretary, Jordan Purifoy, vice president, and Christa Hopson, president. The installation will take place in May.

A big thank you to Mrs. Whitlock, Mrs. Blanton, Mrs. Anderson, Lynsey McKenzie, Jill Plyler and Mr. Alexander for helping with count the ballots. An extra special thanks to Mrs. Anderson.

Students were still talking about the Power Team's visit, as so many attended each performance.

Students of the month are Christian Hopson, fifth grade, Jaquaya Dixon, sixth grade, Lindsey Saffell, seventh grade, and Heather Drake, eighth grade. Those students will go out for lunch with Mr. Alexander.

The eighth grade Benchmark test should be over by the time you read this. Most of the students seem tired of testing, and for some it really doesn't matter.

Time is running out for this school year and we are trying to get everything completed that we are suppose to do, especially continue to make those Classy Moments at CMS.
